Palatal myoclonus is a rapid spasm of the palatal (roof of the mouth) muscles, which results in clicking or popping in the ear. Chronic clonus is often due to lesions of the central tegmental tract (which connects the red nucleus to the ipsilateral inferior olivary nucleus). Uniquely, the clicking noise does not subside when the patient sleeps.
Many of these patients are undiagnosed for years. They have little options as far as treatment which is often not effective. Functional Cranial Release is a pioneering treatment that has been shown to help some cases of PM. To date Dr. Lieurance has treated more patients with this disease than any other single physician or clinic. In addition he has had success treating most cases using his techniques.
